Short Review

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 31 October 2006 07:36 (A review of Moving Pictures)

A bit of a longer book, Moving Pictures ensures the reader doesn't get bored by shilling out excitement and laughs throughout the story.

We meet up with a very studious and smart wizard student who works very hard so he can laze around and do nothing, and a beautiful farmer girl with dreams of being famous. Along the way we find animals that talk, banged kernels, and a 50 foot girl hauling an ape up a tower.

Short Review

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 9 October 2006 02:12 (A review of Octopussy and The Living Daylights (James Bond, Book 14))

This is a collection of short Bond stories. All these stories seem to be about Bond's smaller jobs. Jobs that don't call for high adventure. I heard somewhere that these jobs are like Bond cleaning up his files, and this seems pretty accurate. No bond girls, no explosives, just getting the job done.

1.) Octopussy - From the point of view of the "Villian". Through flashbacks we go through the history of the crime and the repercussions.
2.) Living Daylights - Bond is assigned to kill a killer. He has to protect an informant as he crosses from east to west Germany. He needs to snipe a snipper.

3.)Property of a lady - How Bond reveals the secret of a Russian spy through the careful observation of an auction.

Discworld

Posted : 17 years, 9 months ago on 9 June 2006 05:51 (A review of The Colour of Magic (Discworld, Book 1))

Hijinks ensued when a wizard school dropout meets discworld's first tourist and is commissioned to protect the overly generous very naive tourist. This is the first book in a very large sieries of books by Terry Pratchett.
This book was very entertaining and hilarious. It is almost a satire on the whole fantasy genera.

Good and Fast read

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 1 May 2006 05:12 (A review of Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity)

I need to read this more than once. It is a fast read and has a dearth of information on how to organize your workspace and time. Even if you don't go the full GTD route there are a bunch of ideas and tips you can use to immediately and concretely help your sanity.

Interesting, but some parts are bland

Posted : 17 years, 11 months ago on 1 May 2006 05:05 (A review of The Science of Discworld)

Depending on what you are interested in some parts of this book are rather dry. It tries to describe a possible scientific "why" of this world(earth). It does this through the bumbling observations of Discword's unseen university where they accidentally create a new universe inside a magic bubble. A universe without magic.

It alternates from the point of view of the professors and narrative of what is happening. It spans the gambit of scientific and philosophical debates, from the science of how we are here to the philosophical why we are here.

Thunderball

Posted : 18 years ago on 4 March 2006 01:17 (A review of Thunderball (James Bond, Book 9))

9th novel in the Bond Series. A bomber holding two nuclear bombs has been taken hostage and all the worlds superpowers are trying to find it before the deadline.

A gripping tale of adventure. Well written and keeps interest throughout.

Doctor No

Posted : 18 years ago on 4 March 2006 01:09 (A review of Doctor No )

One of the better Bond books. Able to keep attention even through the dryer parts. Bond finds himself fighting a "mystical beast", various dangerous fish, and (of course)a rich super-villain. Good adventure. Good fun.

The Rise of Endymion

Posted : 18 years ago on 4 March 2006 12:43 (A review of The Rise of Endymion (Hyperion Cantos))

4th book in the series. This book has times where it drags a little, not up to the series standards, but it is still a great book.

Endymion

Posted : 18 years ago on 4 March 2006 12:39 (A review of Endymion)

3rd book in the Hyperion Series and it stays the same caliber writing. Very good story line, very good writing. I would say this is a science fiction adventure. There is the customary political/sociological intrigue but it is well done and not the entire focus of the series. The story telling is first and foremost.
